07.30 Thai Government donated for North Kyushu flood

The Royal Thai government has donated 14.5 million yen (5.8 million baht) flood relief to the four prefectures in Northern Kyushu (Kumamoto, Oita, Fukuoka, and Saga) heavily hit by the floods following by torrential rainfall on 12 July 2012 as a symbolic token underscored the close ties between the two countries.

In this regard, H.E. Virasakdi Futrakul, Ambassador of Thailand to Japan, visited Kumamoto, Oita and Fukuoka during 30-31 July 2012 and met the Governors of each prefecture to present the said donations which have been allocated as follows:

1) On 30 July 2012, 11.00 hrs., the Ambassador paid a courtesy call on Mr. Ikuo Kabashima, Kumamoto Governor, and presented a 5-million-yen cheque.

2) On 30 July 2012, 16.30 hrs., the Ambassador paid a courtesy call on Mr. Katsusada Hirose, Oita Governor, and presented a 4-million-yen cheque.

3) On 31 July 2012, 14.00 hrs., the Ambassador paid a courtesy call on Mr. Hiroshi Ogawa, Fukuoka Governor, and presented a 4-million-yen cheque.

Upon the visits, both sides emphasized the strong ties of Thailand and Japan at all levels, from Royal Family level to people level, in particular the assistance to one another in times of need including the massive earthquake and tsunami in Japan and severe flood in Thailand in 2011.    The financial assistance to Japan during this tough time indeed underscored their strong bond of friendship.

As for Saga Prefecture, the Royal Thai Embassy will deliver the separate donation of 1.5 million yen through Japan Red Cross Society.
