09.05 Ambassador presented donation for Saga flood

On 5 September 2012, Mr. Yasushi Furukawa, Saga Governor, paid a courtesy visit to the Ambassador at the Residence during his Tokyo visit in order to receive 1.5 million yen donation from the Royal Thai Government and Thai people for the flood caused by heavy rain and condolence letter showing concern and close friendship between Thailand and Saga.
Heavy rain and flood in the northern part of Kyushu in July 2012 caused damages to more than 108 houses and affected more than 27,000 people in Saga.
Today Thailand and Saga have close relations, both in economic and people aspects. To clarify, in 2011, trade value between Thailand and Saga totaled 1.5 trillion yen (600 billion baht). Moreover, two Saga firms have invested in automobile parts industry in Thailand. In regards of people relations, approximately 60 Thai people live in Saga. Seven of them are exchange students. In addition, twenty-two experts from Saga have also transferred technology to Thailand through JICA programs.
