26/10/2012

On 23 October 2012, Mr. Singtong Lapisatepun, Chargé d’affaires and his spouse led the representatives from Royal Thai Embassy in Tokyo, Royal Thai Consulate-General, Osaka together with the Head of Thai offices in Japan and the representative of Honorary Consulate-General in Nagoya to attend the worship and wreath-laying ceremony on the occasion of King Rama V’s memorial day at Nittai-ji Temple, Nagoya, Aichi prefecture
Nittai-ji, meaning Japan-Thai Temple, is the symbol of the long relationship and Buddhism relations between Thailand and Japan. It was constructed as a memorial on the occasion that King Chulalongkorn (Rama V) gave the relics of Buddha Sakyamuni and the Buddha statue to Japanese Buddhists in 1900. Many members of Thailand’s Royal Family often came to the temple when they visited Japan. In 1987, the temple constructed the King Chulalongkorn’s statue to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Thailand and Japan.
