2012.12.15 7th Thai Speech Contest

On 15 December 2012, the Royal Thai Embassy in corporation with Kanda University of International Studies held the 7th Thai Speech Contest to allow Japanese students who study the Thai language in their universities to present their ability in the Thai language and give their opinions through Thai speech. The event also allowed university students to exchange their views on Thai studies.
The event was held at the Millennium Hall, Kanda University of International Studies. Mr. Singtong Lapisatepun, Minister of the Royal Thai Embassy, gave opening remarks at the contest. Fifteen Bachelor degree students of Thai Major from 5 universities in Japan including Tokyo University of Foreign Studies (Tokyo), Osaka University (Osaka Prefecture), Utsunomiya University (Tochigi Prefecture), Keio University (Tokyo) and Kanda University of International Studies (Chiba Prefecture).
Every contestant must deliver the speech under the title of “Hope” and answer a question in Thai. The selection panel was composed of representatives from the Royal Thai Embassy, Tourism Authority of Thailand in Tokyo, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan and the Thai Section of NHK Radio World Japan.
The two outstanding prizes for this year contest belonged to Ms. Umi Kuwahara and Ms. Erika Yuzawa from Kanda University of International Studies. Each received a round trip air ticket from Tokyo to Bangkok as well as a trophy from the Royal Thai Embassy and a certificate. Other winners received a trophy, a certificate, cash reward and books on Thailand. Thai traditional dance and music were also performed at the event.
