2012.12.18-19 Dr. Supachai Panitchpakdi, Secretary General of the UNCTAD won Grand Prize of the 1st Asia Cosmopolitan Awards

On 18-19 December 2012, H.E. Ambassador Thanatip Upatising and his spouse, together with Mr. Manopchai Vongphakdi, Consul-General in Osaka, attended the 1st Asia Cosmopolitan Awards Ceremony in Nara Prefecture. The Award is established by the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA) and Nara Prefectural Government in 2012. The Grand Prize was awarded to Dr. Supachai Panitchpakdi, Secretary General of the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD). On this occasion, Dr. Surin Pitsuwan, Secretary-General of ASEAN, also presented a keynote speech on “Future of Asia”. Apart from attending the said Award Ceremony, the Ambassador also paid a courtesy on Mr. Shogo Arai, Governor of Nara Prefecture on 19 December 2012. Both sides discussed on the prospect of cooperation between Thailand and Nara Prefecture in particular, the cultural promotion between Nara Prefecture and Sukhothai Province.
