Minister Congratulated Professor Satoshi Omura

On 27^th November 2015, Mr. Bhakavat Tanskul represented the Royal Thai Embassy, bearing flowers in the name of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, to congratulate Professor Satoshi Omura for receiving the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine 2015. Professor Prasit Watanapa, Dean of Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital representing the Prince Mahidol Award Foundation, also brought flowers to congratulate Professor Omura for receiving the award.

Professor Omura, received the Prince Mahidol Award for Medicine in the year 1997 for his biological research related to the bacterium species, Streptomyces avermitilis, used for extracting Ivermectin medicine, which is used to cure and prevent blindness caused by parasites and elephantiasis. This has helped patients in the Africa region who have been affected by the spreading of parasites.
