On June 10, 2016, H.E. Ambassador Bansarn Bunnag together with his spouse and delegations visited Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture in order to meet Mr. Yoshihiro Murai, the Governor of Miyagi Prefecture, and Mrs. Emiko Okuyama, the Mayor of Sendai City for the purpose of strengthening relations between Thailand and Sendai.
The Ambassador’s main reason for visiting Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture was to attend the 4th Thai Festival in Sendai, which was organized by Sendai City, the Chamber of Commerce and Sendai Industry between June 11-12, 2016 and also to preside over the opening ceremony on the morning of June 12.
The Royal Thai Embassy Tokyo has supported the reconstruction of Sendai, which was heavily damaged following the earthquake and tsunami in 2011. On that occasion, various Thai sectors expressed great concern about that incident. Furthermore, Thai people thank citizens in Miyagi for helping Thai people during the Great Flood of 2011 in Thailand. This represents the good relations between Japan and Thailand. Therefore, the Royal Thai Embassy aims to strengthen relations between Thailand and various regions of Japan. Especially since next year will mark the 130th year of Japan-Thailand diplomatic relations.
The Ambassador explained the current Thai Government’s economic policies and affirmed his determination in supporting commerce, investment, and tourism in Miyagi Prefecture. In 2015, there were approximately 10,000 Thai people visiting Miyagi. The number of Thai tourists has augmented following 2013 when the Japanese Government exempted Visas for Thai tourists. On this occasion, Miyagi Prefecture and Sendai City expressed their appreciation to Thai people for helping support the reconstruction of Miyagi Prefecture and Sendai City.
