On 27 December 2016, H.E. Ambassador Bansarn Bunnag presided over the 278th Meeting of the ASEAN Committee in Tokyo (ACT) at the Royal Thai Embassy. The Ambassadors of ASEAN and representatives from 10 countries attended this meeting in order to continue to enhance the role and raise awareness of ASEAN in Japan. This meeting was Thailand's last chairmanship and Singapore will assume the chairmanship for the next series of meetings to be held from January - June 2017. After the meeting, H.E. Ambassador Bansarn hosted a luncheon to farewell H.E. Ambassador Muhamud Ahmad, Ambassador of Brunei Darussalam to Japan, who will end his tenure on 29 December 2016. Thailand was the country’s chairmanship of the ACT for 6 months from June – December 59. Besides holding the ACT meeting continuously, Thailand will continue to extend its full support to cooperate with ASEAN member-states and Japan in every aspect. Particularly, with high level officers of Japan such as cooperation with the ASEAN-Japan Center to hold seminars about ASEAN in which the Ambassador gave a lecture and seminar in honor of the State Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan. In addition, discussing arrangements between ASEAN Ambassadors and VIP of Japan such as the Special Advisor of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan as well as the Permanent Secretary. Furthermore, spouses of ASEAN Ambassadors who have joined the Asia-Pacific Ladies Friendship Society, participate in a lot of activities, such as exhibitions, fairs and charity concerts.
