On 10 January 2017, H.E. Ambassador Bansarn Bunnag led a delegation to visit Akita Prefecture at the invitation of Mr. Tadanari Ishii, Chairman of the Akita-Thailand Friendship Association in order to attend the Inaugural General Meeting at the Castle Hotel, Akita Prefecture.
During this visit, the Ambassador and delegation paid a courtesy call on Mr. Norihisa Satake, Akita Governor. Khunying Pattama Leesawasdrakula, Chairman of the Badminton Association of Thailand, Under Royal Patronage of His Majesty the King and Mr. Pradchar Pradyawong, Director of Noble Mono Co., Ltd. participated as well. Both sides exchanged views and opinions on how to strengthen bilateral relations. In particular, in the areas of sports education and tourism, that the Badminton Association currently cooperates closely on with Misato City of Akita Prefecture. They have an agreement to exchange sports players, including training Thai sports players in Misato City, for the Tokyo Olympics in 2020. In addition, Noble Mono is the first company to import Akita Beef to Thailand, which has been selected to be one of the finest Japanese beefs in Thailand.
After that, the Ambassador attended and delivered a speech about “130 – year – relations between Thailand-Japan” at the Inaugural General Meeting and the Reception of the Akita-Kingdom of the Thailand Friendship Association. The Ambassador touched on the passing away of the late King Bhumibol and the ascendance to the throne of King Maha Vajiralongkorn as well as the current political climate and the economy of Thailand, which is steady and ready for investment.
Akita is one of the prefectures of Japan that cooperates closely with Thailand. The Hokuto Bank is the local bank of Akita and it has the main role of enhancing relations, with support from the Governor and the Akita-Thailand Friendship Association.
