21/06/2017

On June 21st 2017, H.E Ambassador Bansarn Bunnag and Madam Yupadee Bunnag presided over the opening ceremony of the Thai cooking class event for Japanese customers. This is one of the events held in the occasion of the 130th anniversary of Japan-Thailand diplomatic relations and its purpose is to create a positive image of Thailand and Thai products through media and food culture, which have been enjoyed by Japanese people. Currently there are 1,000 Thai restaurants in Japan.
For this event, the Royal Thai Embassy invited chef Chamnong Nirangsan, who is the president of the Thai Cooking Association and guest judge on Iron Chef Thailand to teach the guests about Thai food. The participants were split into two groups, those engaged with foreign affairs and Thailand; another group consisted of management from large private companies. The chef of a five-star hotel in Tokyo, Japanese food experts and the general public attended the event. There were a total of 6 demonstrations, which were held during 21-23 June at the Thai Cultural Institute (Thaitec)
The Japanese participants enjoyed experiencing the charm of Thai food and cooking real Thai food. Overall, there was a greater awareness and popularity of Thailand and Thai food. This also included Thai ingredients that are not as well known, such as palm sugar and tamarind paste, which was the goal of the Royal Thai embassy.
