On 18 July 2017, H.E. Ambassador Bansarn Bunnag together with Mr. Shinya Ejima, Senior Vice President of JICA and Mr. Wattanawit Gajaseni, Director of Countries Partnership Branch of the Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA) presided over the opening ceremony of “The Month of Thailand” at the headquarters of JICA Global Plaza in Tokyo. Head Thai officials in Tokyo, representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, representatives of JICA and more than 50 guests from the general public also attended the event.
The Ambassador announced that the activities of the event would be held throughout the month of July, consisting of 3 main parts: 1) An exhibition about Thailand 2) A presentation about Thai food given at JICA Global Plaza’s restaurant 3) A lecture about Thailand.
In the exhibition, the close relationship between the two countries was presented in regards to the topic of bilateral and multilateral cooperation between Thailand and Japan. The close ties between the two countries have been rooted in the cooperation between the royal families in Thailand and Japan. At the same time, the exhibition will also display King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s sufficiency economy philosophy, which is in line with the vision and work of Japan in its goals for sustainable development.
On this occasion, Mr. Ejima emphasized how Thailand and Japan are like close friends who have shared a long-term relationship and cooperation. Currently, there are many projects in progress in various fields. In particular is the cooperation for the Department of International Cooperation for the Greater Mekong Sub-region.
The main goal of this event is to help raise awareness and educate the general Japanese public about the deep Thai-Japanese relationship and the image of the Thai King.
