On 1 November 2017, H.E. Ambassador Bansarn Bunnag, together with Team Thailand officials visited Okinawa in order to pay a courtesy call on H.E. Mr. Takeshi Onaga, Governor of Okinawa Prefecture, Mr. Mikiko Shiroma, Mayor of Naha City and Mr. Denijiro Ishimine, Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce in Naha. On this occasion, both sides exchanged views and opinions on the cooperation between Thailand and Japan, which began in the Ryukyu period (Sukhothai period) and which has continued to this day. In addition, both sides agreed to cooperate in every way. Particularly, in trade, investment and tourism.
On the evening of the same day, the Ambassador participated in the Awamori Night at the ANA Crowne Plaza Okinawa Harborview Hotel. The Chairman of the Okinawa Awamori Distillers Association and the Governor also participated in this event.
Awamori is an alcohol made from Thai rice using the traditional method, which began production in the Ayutthaya period and it is a symbol of Thailand-Japan relations.
