On 31 May 2018, Ambassador Bansarn Bunnag acted as a witness during the signing of the Biomass Fuels Contract between Siam Biomass Product Ltd., by Mr. Surapol Kunanantakul, Managing Director, and Mitsui & Co. Ltd., by Mr. Kazuhiro Iguchi, General Manager of the Fuel Division, joined by Miss Natiya Suchinda, Minister (Commercial). On this occasion, the Ambassador stated that biomass is one of the targeted industries that the government supports. Moreover, it is also consistent with the Japanese government's policy on the use of biomass fuels as a clean source to produce energy.
Furthermore, under COP 21, Japan aims to reduce its greenhouse gas emission by 26% within 2030 (from 2013), while increasing the share of renewable energy in energy mix from 14.3% in 2015 to 22-24% in 2030. As a result, one of the processes to achieve these objectives is the adoption of Biomass Feed in Tariff (FIT) which implicitly increases the demand in Japan for biomass fuels.
