The Mayor of Yamagata City paid a courtesy call to the Ambassador

On 5 June 2018, Takahiro Sato, the Mayor of Yamagata City, and his delegation paid a courtesy call to H.E. Mr. Bansarn Bunnag, the Ambassador of Thailand to Tokyo, to report on the progress of cooperation between Yamagata City and the Judo Association of Thailand Under The Patronage of His Majesty The King which the Ambassador acted as a witness during the signing of the cooperation in November 2017 at the Yamagata Prefecture.
On this occasion, both sides discussed the promotion of Thai-Yamagata relations, which has flourished as of the present. In June 2018, the Thai Judo athletes will be coming to practice in Yamagata Prefecture. After that, in August 2018, Yamagata Deputy Mayor will travel to Thailand along with the athletes from Yamagata City to participate in an international judo friendly competition in Bangkok. In October 2018, the Ambassador will visit Yamagata Prefecture to celebrate the foundation of the Yamagata-Thai Friendship Association as the special advisor of the association, together with the Yamagata Governor.
Moreover, the Yamagata-Thai Friendship Association was established by the support of the Shonai Bank which is a local bank that plays an important role in the region and operates business with Thailand, with Mr. Hiroji Sakae, the President of Yamagata Newspaper, acting as the President of the bank.
