On 16 June 2018, H.E. Mr. Bansarn Bunnag, the Ambassador of Thailand to Japan, appointed Mr. Cherdchai Chaivaivid, Minister, as his representative to attend the opening ceremony of the 6thThai Festival in Sendai at Koutoudai Park, Sendai City. Mrs. Kazuko Kaori, the Mayor of Sendai City, and Mr. Kenji Katagiri, the President of Thai Festival in Sendai Committee who is the main organizers of the event, Mr. Akiyoshi Kawabata, the Deputy Governor of Miyagi Prefecture, and other honorable guests also attended the opening ceremony.
Thai Festival in Sendai was held for the 6th time during 16 – 17 June 2018. This year, the Royal Thai Embassy’s booth had a special exhibition under the theme “Thailand 4.0 – The future is here” in order to give noteworthy information regarding Thailand’s development plan which emphasizes the development of innovation and the promotion of regional connection. Moreover, the booth of the Office of Agricultural Affairs, Tokyo, brought various fruits for tasting and selling, including mango, durian, and coconut. As for the booth of Tourism Authority of Thailand, there were the spectacles of Thai dance and Thai boxing, and the activity to recommend tourist attractions in the southern region of Thailand. The estimated participating guests during both days amounted to approximately 70,000 people.
