On 25 August 2018, Minister Cherdchai Chaivaivid delivered a speech at the opening ceremony of the 9th Thai Festival in Shizuoka and expressed appreciation to the Festival organizer, the Shizuoka-Thailand Friendship Association. At the Festival, the Royal Thai Embassy set up an exhibition "Thailand 4.0 - The future is here" to promote government policy regarding future development projects in the country. The Office of Agricultural Affairs organized activities to promote quality of Thai agricultural products as well as demonstration booth aiming at promoting Thai silk by the Queen Sirikit Department of Sericulture, while the Tokyo office of Tourism Authority of Thailand coordinated activities promoting tourism in northern Thailand.
Minister Cherdchai took this opportunity to pay courtesy calls to the Vice Governor of Shizuoka Prefecture and the Vice Mayor of Shizuoka City where he touched on the close friendship between Thailand and Shizuoka, which is symbolized by Mr. Nagamasa Yamada, and reaffirmed the policy in strengthening relationship between Thailand and Japan prefectural governments by discussing possibilities to increase cooperation between Thailand and Shizuoka in several areas including economic development and tourism industry.
