The 1st Thai Festival in Saga

20/10/2018

On 20 October 2018, Ambassador Bansarn BUNNAG presides over the opening ceremony of the first Thai Festival in Saga with Mr. Yoshinori Yamaguchi, Governor of Saga, and Mr. Attakarn Wongchanamas, Consul General of Thailand to Fukuoka. The Thai Festival in Saga was held for the first time this year, after the Royal Thai Embassy had cooperated with Saga Prefecture to organize the Thai Fair in Saga in 2017 to commemorate the 130th anniversary of Japan and Thailand Diplomatic relations.

At the opening ceremony, Ambassador Bansarn expresses his appreciation to Governor Yamaguchi for placing importance on the cooperation with Thailand. Thanks to the Governor’s effort, nowadays Saga prefecture as well as its local products are very well known in Thailand. At the same time, the Thai Festival in Saga can also play important part to raise awareness on Thailand among the people in Saga in all dimensions as the festival brings all the charms of Thailand to display in Saga, namely the foods, local products, tourism spots and cultural performances.

One of the highlights of the Festival is the performance of Thai classical dances and martial arts by the Department or Fine Arts of Thailand. The Or Tor Kor Market, which is the biggest food market in Thailand, brings many kinds of Thai fresh fruits to serve in Saga. On the embassy’s part, the mobile consular is organised to provide consular service to Thai citizens and the exhibition on “Thailand 4.0” was displayed to provide details on Thailand's economic policy.  Last but not least, Thai food provided by the local Thai community in Saga is also very popular among the visitors.

The Thai Festival in Saga was successful in capturing the interests of the local people. Within two days, 30,000 people are expected to visit this year’s festival.
