26/09/2020

On 26 September 2020 which is the commemoration day of the 133rd anniversary of the Japan-Thailand diplomatic relations, Ambassador Singtong and Madame Porndee Lapisatepun, along with Mr. Choltisak Chawpaknum, Minister-Counsellor (Agriculture) and representative from Tourism Authority of Thailand, Tokyo Office, joined the “United Rice Ball Project” at the Thai Residence.

“United Rice Ball Project” is a project created by Creative Project Base Co. Ltd., to unite Thai rice and Japanese rice in one Rice ball. The project is aimed for 120 participants to cook the rice ball and eat online together via Zoom.

On this occasion, Ambassador Singtong emphasized the culture of having rice as staple food for both countries. In the Past, Thai Rice was imported to Japan to resolve the problem of insufficiency of Japanese rice but not so popular among Japanese consumers because of the differences between the texture of Thai rice and Japanese rice. Nowadays, besides its popularity at Thai food restaurants in Japan, Thai rice is also one of the important ingredients of Japanese cuisine such as, Awamori (alcoholic beverage produced in Okinawa), Senbei (Japanese rice cracker), Shoyu and Miso. Moreover, Ambassador’s Spouse also introduced Thai style Rice ball mixed with Green Curry, Thai Mackerel and Sweet dried fish to the participants.
