Thai Ambassador paid a courtesy call on the Governor of Okinawa

On 30 October 2020, H.E. Ambassador Singtong Lapisatepun paid a courtesy call on Mr. Denny TAMAKI, Governor of Okinawa, to congratulate Okinawa’s success in hosting the 7th Tourism Expo Japan 2020 as it is the first time that the Tourism Expo Japan has been held in Okinawa.
H.E. Ambassador also commended the Governor and the citizen of Okinawa for their endeavor to restore and reconstruct Shuri Castle, which was on fire in October 2019, with an aim to be completed by 2026.
The Governor of Okinawa emphasized Okinawa and Thailand’s long relationship through Awamori – a distilled rice liquor which Thai rice is the main ingredient. This makes Okinawa people feel very close to Thai people. The Governor also expressed his gratitude to the Thai side, particularly on the first Thai Expo Okinawa in 2019.
Both of them agreed to strengthen the cooperation between Thailand and Okinawa in several fields, including tourism, cultural exchange and agriculture.
