On 5 November 2020, Mr. SHUKURI Masafumi, Chairman of International High-Speed Rail Association (IHRA), Mr. Torkel PATTERSON, Vice Chairman of IHRA, along with IHRA Team, paid
a courtesy call on H.E. Ambassador Singtong Lapisatepun to express their gratitude for Ambassador’s attendance to the launching event of the Shinkansen high-speed train Series N700S on 6 October 2020.
Mr. SHUKURI pointed out Japan’s successful story in inventing Shinkansen since Tokyo Olympic 1964. IHRA has contributed to the development of a high speed railway not only in Japan but around the world. Mr. SHUKURI also envisaged that in a near future,the Bang Sue Central Station would be the main railway hub in Bangkok, which is similar to Tokyo Station – the main railway hub in Tokyo.
H.E. Ambassador commended Japan’s development of high speed rail from his experiences in riding on various Series of Shinkansen including the latest Series N700S he just had the test ride. He also expressed his gratitude to Japan’s contribution to the development of railway system in Thailand.The establishment of the ASEAN -India Regional Office of the Japan Transport and Tourism Research Institute in Bangkok next year has reflected that Japan attached great importance to transportation in Thailand.
