During the morning of 29 June 2021, the Cabinets of Thailand and Japan approved the signing of Exchange Notes between the Government of the Kingdom of Thailand and the Government of Japan on the Grant of COVID-19 Vaccines by the Government of Japan to the Royal Thai Government to be signed by His Excellency Mr. Don Pramudwinai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, on behalf of the Royal Thai Government and His Excellency Mr. NASHIDA Kazuya, Ambassador of Japan to Thailand, on behalf of the Government of Japan. In the afternoon of the same day, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Thailand held the Signing Ceremony of the Exchange Notes at Bua Kaew Room, which was attended by officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, the Ministry of Public Health of Thailand and the Embassy of Japan in Thailand.
The Government of Japan would provide one million and fifty-thousand doses of AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines to the Royal Thai Government with a view to helping alleviate the COVID-19 situation in Thailand as well as enhance the capacity of the healthcare and medical sector, socio-economic recovery and the well-being of people at large. This reflects the close strategic partnership between Thailand and Japan and Japan’s commitment in enhancing relations with Thailand and countries in Southeast Asia.
The officials of the relevant agencies of Thailand and Japan are closely coordinating to ensure a timely delivery of the COVID-19 vaccines from the Government of Japan. The vaccines are scheduled to arrive in Thailand in the evening of 9 July 2021, and a Handover Ceremony will be held subsequently.
