Ambassador held discussion with the House of Representatives’ Standing Committee on Labour

16/12/2024

On Monday, 2 December 2024, H.E. Mr. Witchu Vejjajiva, Ambassador of Thailand to Japan, and the Minister Counsellor (Labour Affairs), welcomed and held a discussion with the Standing Committee on Labour of the House of Representatives of Thailand led by Mr. Saritpong Kiewkong, Chairman, at the Royal Thai Embassy in Tokyo.

With Japan's plan to import 800,000 foreign workers in the next five years, the Committee on Labour and the Embassy together with the Labour Affairs Office agreed on the urgency of Thailand to prepare the Thai workforce to be more ready for this opportunity by, for instance, equipping them with greater Japanese language skills and lowering the costs of Thai workers going overseas. Furthermore, the Labour Committee and the Embassy discussed and shared serious concern over the issue of Thai nationals overstaying in Japan while calling for Thai agencies concerned to redouble their efforts in dismantling illegal migration networks to achieve more practical and viable solutions.
