In November 2022, a delegation from Aomori Prefecture visited Thailand to promote Aomoriapples to Thai people. The Ambassador and the delegation also exchanged opinions on Aomori Prefecture’s trade promotion activity in Thailand, travel measures and people-to-people relations which help facilitate the expansion of Aomoriapple export to Thailand, as well as Thai tropical fruit export to Japan. Thailand is the third largest market, after Taiwan and Hong Kong, for exporting of Aomoriapples, with a total of 753 tons in 2020.

Governor KOTANI and Ambassador Witchu also discussed ways to strengthen agricultural cooperation as Aomori Prefecture is looking for expanding the overseas markets for its high-quality apples while Thailand is aiming to promote its increasingly popular fruits, such as mangosteen, mango, and pomelo.
On this occasion, Vice Governor KOTANI cordially presented Aomori famous apples as a gift to the Royal Thai Embassy. This year, Aomori Prefecture has exported about 30,000 tons of apples overseas, including 808 tons to Thailand.
