写真展は駐日外交官のとらえた日本の姿を、写真芸術を通じて表現する試みとして1998年より毎年開催されており、日本人はその展覧会を通して視点の違う日本について知ることができます。また、文化交流を促進すると共に、駐日外交官と日本社会との親密な関係促進に寄与しています。
なお、2018-2019年開催では、バンサーン・ブンナーク駐日タイ大使（当時）が実行委員長を務めました。
