... to promote Thailand in Okinawa to enhance trade, investment and tourism between the two countries. Mr. Sakumoto has been the Honorary Consul of Thailand in Naha City since 2002. He is the president of the Zuisen Distillery Co., Ltd. which produces Awamori that originated in the Ayutthaya Period in Thailand. In addition, Awamori is the only Japanese alcohol which is made from Thai rice.

2018年8月10日、バンサーン・ブンナーク大使は、首相補佐官及び第2回琉球泡盛輸出促進プロジェクト会議の委員長である宮腰光寛氏の招待を受け、沖縄県で委員長のゲストとして挨拶をしました。 2018年8月10日、バンサーン・ブンナーク大使は、首相補佐官及び第2回琉球泡盛輸出促進プロジェクト会議の委員長である宮腰光寛氏の招待を受け、沖縄県で委員長ゲストとして挨拶をしました。大使は、長い歴史をもつ泡盛の原料であるタイ米の輸出国としてのタイの役割について述べました。約600年もの歴史をもつ泡盛の原料はタイ米です。これは琉球とアユタヤとの貿易から始まりました。このように泡盛は、その頃からの長い歴史をもつタイ日関係を示す重要な証拠となる品物です。海を渡りアユタヤへ赴いた琉球の人々（現在の沖縄県民）はタイの焼酎の作り方を学び、その手法を用いて現在の泡盛を作りました。タイ米の促進については、5月に東京で行われた第19回タイフェスティバルで、大使館は沖縄県の泡盛生産協会と共同ブースで広報支援を行いました。現在、日本は年間228、846トンの米をタイから輸入しています。その内3万トンは、日本の焼酎でタイ米を使用した蒸留酒である泡盛の原料となります。

Governor and the citizen of Okinawa for their endeavor to restore and reconstruct Shuri Castle, which was on fire in October 2019, with an aim to be completed by 2026.  The Governor of Okinawa emphasized Okinawa and Thailand’s long relationship through Awamori – a distilled rice liquor which Thai rice is the main ingredient.
