Deputy Mayor of Shizuoka City and Director of the Nihon Daira Zoo visited the Embassy

Konaga, Deputy Mayor of Shizuoka City, along with Mr. Yasuhiro Kakishima, Director of Nihon Daira Zoo visited the Royal Thai Embassy and were welcomed by Mrs. Salinee Phonprapai, Minister Counsellor. Deputy Mayor reported the outcome when they went to Thailand in January 2019 to discuss with the related organizations about receiving Asian elephant to Nihon Daira Zoo. On this occasion, Minister Counsellor Salinee said that the Royal Thai Embassy will fully support Shizuoka City to receive Thai elephant to Japan in accordance with laws.

On 2 February 2014, Ambassador Thanatip Upatising, attended the 67th birthday celebration of the Thai elephant “Hanako” at Inokashira Park Zoo in Tokyo.  Hanako was given by Thailand to Japan in 1949 and is now the oldest elephant natured by a zoo in Japan.
